A Weekend of Debate, Diplomacy, and Discovery at DEMUN

That’s a wrap on the fourth annual Dwight-Englewood Model UN (DEMUN) Conference!
DEMUN recently welcomed more than 130 delegates from eight schools for a weekend of debate, diplomacy, and collaboration. Delegates took on four committees, including the ECOFIN General Assembly, in which students debated the regulation of cryptocurrency.

We were honored to welcome New Jersey Acting Secretary of State Shirley Emehelu as our guest speaker. She urged delegates to “recognize the courage it takes to do something difficult” and, as is the ethos of Model UN, to “leave the world better than you found it” at a time when change is accelerating.

“It was amazing to watch newer delegates grow more confident in their speaking and learn to collaborate with people who may disagree with them,” said Co-Secretary-General Prisha Vora ’27. “These skills are so important beyond Model UN, helping us meet the challenges of a changing world and find ways to make it better.”

“Model UN has the amazing ability to bring people together, both within and outside of our community,” added Co-Secretary-General Asha Harker ’27. “I’m so proud of all the work that club leadership and all of the club members put into making the event as successful as it was.”

Thank you to Secretary Emehelu, our talented Secretariat, every visiting delegate, and faculty advisors Dr. Dominic Vendell and Ms. Kelly Baltes. We can’t wait to see what this season brings!
