The Chuseok/Mid-Autumn Festival, hosted by the Chinese Culture Club (CCC) and Korean Culture Club (KCC), returned to the Wharton Lessin Dining Hall last week for East Asian snacks, mooncake making, and more. World Language Chair Mr. Mike Hegedus, CCC faculty advisor, described the significance of the moon-shaped treats and how this annual harvest festival is cherished time for families to come together. “In the Chinese culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important event after Lunar New Year,” said Mr. Hegedus. The Chinese Parent Affinity group presented an elaborate tea tasting with fragrant flavors such as lychee-chrysanthemum and jasmine-snow pear. Meanwhile, Mr. Joel Lee ’17, Assistant Director of DEIB for the Upper School and KCC faculty advisor, facilitated a traditional Korean pitch-pot game called tuho. Thanks to our affinity groups for bringing good food and joyful traditions to D-E!
